Abyss is a raiding guild. Our objective as a whole is to beat down any door that stands in the way of our goals. PvE is what we do and we do it well. We are a large group of people(40+) all with the same goal, to down new content. We have several of the founding members and have had an intact core of officers since The Burning Crusade. We have strict recruitment policies because we play to be the best, and we wont accept anything but the best. Here is a list of our ranks and the definitions for each.

RECRUIT (loot priority over alts)

Recruits are members of the guild who have been wearing the Abyss tag for under 2 weeks. As a recruit you have 2 weeks to prove yourself worthy of being part of our raid team. Our standards are not lower for Recruits than they are for Raiders. If anything they're higher. As a recruit you are required to maintain 90% attendance for the entire duration of your recruitment period(2 weeks). You joined Abyss because you want to be here. You will follow our Guild and Raid rules without question or will be removed no questions asked for violations. You are on a short leash and have a short amount of time to prove yourself to the rest of the guild.

Recruits are initiates working to becomes raiders. You are subjected to the same standards as our current raiders/members.

MEMBER (loot priority over alts, and recruits)

Members are players that have proven themselves skilled with both their class and the current boss mechanics we may be working on. Members are players that have impressed us in their recruitment stage and are in process of becoming raiders. In most cases members are skilled players that have maybe 1 or 2 things holding them back from the Raider rank. You can expect to be a "Member" for at least 1-2 weeks before you will be considered for Raider. Members wishing to participate in raids are subjected to the same rules and standards as Raiders.

RAIDER (loot priority over all other ranks)

Raiders are the heart and soul of Abyss. You are the face of the guild, everything we are as a whole is based off what you can do in 25 mans. We have the highest expectations for Raiders. Becoming a Raider isn't easy, it's an achievement that requires 150% of your attention and effort to obtain. Tolerance for Guild and Raid rule violations are low for this rank. As a Raider you will be required to always come fully prepared to raids, this includes:

-Reading boss strats. Knowing fight mechanics before actually seeing them ingame helps greatly to shorten the learning curve. It also makes explaining the mechanics and overall strat easier for officers and helps you to understand them. You are expected to research as much information about each new encounter as you can including any videos you can find on Youtube, Warcraft Movies, or any other video hosting website.

-Coming fully repaired. Having to hold up the raid so you can repair 2 pulls into the instance is one of the quickest ways to prove you are not ready to be here. Tolerance for this is extremely low and has consequences for reoccurring instances.

-Coming to raids with full consumables such as: Food Buffs, Pots, Elixirs, Flask, Reagents. These things buff your stats and make bosses overall easier. This is one of our main requirements for raiders and will not be argued. If you do not have the gathering ability to support your own consumable stockpile spend some gold and purchase them. Raiding isn't cheap.

-Having all the best gems, enchants, embroideries on all of your gear. Showing up with best in slot items that have sub par gems and enchants shows us that you are not willing to put full effort into your gear and do not deserve to be a raider.

As a Raider you will not only be required to show us you play your class well, you will also be required to show us your understanding and mastering of boss mechanics(IE not getting hit by the fire wall on Sarth, moving out of static fields on Malygos). MOVE OUT OF THE FIRE. The harder encounters in Burning Crusade tought us that multitasking is a requirement if guilds wish to succeed in top end content. You will not be expected to be perfect the first attempt but as a Raider you should never make the same mistake twice and will always push yourself to perform better. It is for this reason we have a few requirements for the 3 different aspects of raid members listed below:

TANKS

As a tank you are responsible for one thing, keeping mobs and bosses from killing everyone else. Your reaction time must be at its best and communication between you and the healers must never stop.

-Tanks are required to have Microphones and are able to use them. This is one of the requirements for making Raider as a tank.

-Tanks are required to have the best gear they can get their hands on. Some bosses hit like trucks and you being able to mitigate as much of that damage you can greatly increases the amount of mana the healers can maintain making the encounter easier.

-One of the most important aspects of tanking is maintaining high TPS(Threat Per Second). The more threat you generate the harder the DPS can push to down the boss faster. Mobility is also important in regards to TPS. Being able to move at the same time as keeping aggro is extremely important.

DPS

DPS is another important thing that makes bosses fall down and drop shiny loot. DPS is easy to replace and will be expected to make the Tanks and Healers jobs easier if they can. As a DPS you are required to maintain high numbers at the same time showing that you have mastered boss mechanics. You are to know everything about your class and show some mastery of it. Reaction time is just as important for DPS as it is for everyone else. Standing in an AoE so you can finish a cast or get that finisher off is the easiest way to find yourself outside the raid and eventually guildless. Their are no excuses for DPS to show up to raid unprepared as stated above.

HEALERS

Healers are the most important part of the raid. You carry the biggest burden when it comes to keeping the raid alive. Instead of making health bars go down you are responsible for keeping them up. Being a skilled healer requires some of the most intense critical thinking out of all the specs. Knowing when to place what heal where is sometimes what it comes down to surviving an AoE or keeping a tank alive. Making adjustments should be second nature to our raiding healers. You should always be in constant communication with the raid as a healer.

Attendance is a major factor in obtaining and keeping this rank. Raiders are required to maintain an 80% attendance over 2 week periods. Example, we raid Monday-Friday 7:30-11:30 server. You can only miss 2 out of 8 days over the period of 2 weeks to keep this rank. Special instances will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

CASUAL

The Casuals/Family/Friends rank is pretty self explanatory. These are members that do not raid but are still required to follow our guild rules. If you are a Casual and find yourself wanting to raid you will subjected to the same rules and standards as our raiders. If you are a Casual and find yourself wanting to become a raider you will be put at member and will go through the same process of proving your skill and dedication. Being a Casual means you are here for mostly the social aspect of the guild or are a good friend of a Member or Raider.

ALT MEMBER

Once again the rank should explain itself. Who wants to play just one class? Almost every member of the guild has multiple alts in guild. Alts have the lowest opportunities for raiding. We rarely if ever let alts in on 25 mans unless without it we are not able to do a specific encounter. Even on your Alt you are still required to follow all of the guild rules even if this Alt is not in the guild. Alts are allowed in 10 mans in most cases but will always be replaced if a main needs a specific boss or piece of loot. Alts used in progression raids although rare are still subjected to the rules and standards as our Raiders.

CLASS LEADER

Class leaders are responsible for a lot of things. As a CL you are a leader of your class and an assistant for decision making for the guild. You are an example of everything we want our Members and Raiders to be. It is your responsibility to know all of our guild policies and enforce our standards. You are the go-to guy for all of the needs of your class members and will be expected to manage them in and out of raids. Class Leaders are expected to be on top of their game in raids and prove why you were made an officer. You are a charismatic figure head that needs to push members to do better and beat new challenges. A CLs responsibilities are listed below.

-Recruitment. You are responsible for going out and finding the type of people we need to be successful in 25 and 10 mans. You are responsible for accepting applications and inviting new members. You are to use your own judgment and will be held responsible for each member you bring in.

-Promotions/Demotions. You are responsible for making accurate determinations of whether someone is ready to become a Member/Raider or if a Raider or Member do not have what it takes to hold the rank. You are required to be the most knowledgeable of every aspect of your class because you will be required to make the choice whether someone has the skill to excel in rank.

-Decision making. There are a lot of issues that is discussed by the officers during meetings. As a CL you will need to input your thoughts and recommendations on the subject to help your fellow officers decide the best course of action.

-Activity. Things pile up if not dealt with in a timely fassion. As an officer you will need to attend as many meetings as you can to help pull the weight in leading the guild. As stated before you are an example of what this guild is. Not showing up puts more work on other officers. Pull your weight, prove that you want to be a leader or hand the responsibility to someone else.

ENFORCER

If Abyss was an army, Enforcers would be it's generals. Enforcers are at the top of the list in authority and are usually the last say in many guild decisions. Being an Enforcer means that you have excelled in both game play and guild administration. You are both a Class Leader and a Raider. You are the very example of what it means to be in Abyss. Expectations are highest for anyone with this rank
